How You Can Help

"I am but one person; but simply because I can not do everything, it will not stop me from doing that which I can."

There are many, many ways in which each of us as individuals can help.  Every thing that you do, big or small, has an impact of such large proportion that you will  never be able to see the final results. Every person that you help can then reach out and help others, like ripples spreading from the impact of a single small stone.  Don't be discouraged by the size of the task in front of us-just do your small part.  All the parts around the world will come together as a whole-and a difference has been made!

Simple Ways To Help:

  •  IGive is a wonderful website that raises money for SMA Support simply by people shopping on-line!  The more people who go through IGive to purchase their products on-line, the more money is donated to SMA Support to help these families. Anything that you would normally purchase can be purchased through IGive.  They have links to drugstores, bookstores, pet stores, music stores, toy stores, tool stores, clothing stores-all brand names and all secure on-line purchasing. You will only have to sign up once, and from there on out, it's all about shopping!

  • Fundraisers:  Each person has the capability to do any kind of fundraiser-the possibilities are limitless!  Following are several examples of fundraisers, big and small, that have raised money to find a cure for SMA:

  • Garage Sales

  • Walk/Run-A-Thons

  • Bake Sales

  • Cans or jars set up in approved public places

  • Corporate sponsorships-most businesses need a tax write-off. Ask them!

  • Car Washes

  • Raffles

  • Tupperware Parties

  • Mary Kay

  • Sports Events

  • SMA Awareness pins/ribbons

  • Ask local malls to donate the change from their fountains.

  • Ask stores to donate the change from their bubblegum, candy, toy machines.

  • Sell shirts

  • Auctions

  • Dances with prizes

  • Poker/Game Tournaments

  • Spread the Word:  One of the most important impacts you could have on finding a cure for SMA it to tell people about it!  The more people that know that thousands of children are dying every year, the more likely that something will be done about it!   There are many simple and painless ways to spread the word about SMA:

  • Write Everyone!
Following are the website and/or e-mail addresses of people we need to keep writing! Any suggestions on additions to this list are more than welcome. (Oprah Winfrey) (Montel Williams) (all evening news shows) (all evening news shows) (all evening news shows) (Geraldo Rivera) (Charlie Rose) (David Letterman) (Jay Leno)

  • Send people to this or other SMA websites so they can see for themselves.

  • Tell your family and friends about IGive and ask them to pass it on!

  • Get information and write an article and submit it to a newspaper.

  • Wear an SMA Awareness pin/ribbon and answer people's questions about it.

  • Link your personal websites to a website about SMA.

  • Contact your local media to do a "human interest" story on an SMA child.

  • If you attend, include SMA children in your prayer requests at church.

  • See if your company/union know that their United Way contributions may also go for SMA.

This is just a tiny sampling of the things that you can do to make a difference-and each of these can be modified in any way that your imagination can take you!  For more ideas on fundraisers, places to donate the money you raise, or advice on how to get started on one, feel free to e-mail and ask!

  • Donating Money Not everyone has the time or ability to do fundraisers, shop on-line, or write letters.  So...following are the websites, both personal and business, of people dedicating their time, money, and lives to fighting and curing SMA once and for all.

Please find your niche, your way of adding that one little part that will complete the whole-the cure for SMA.   This cure is SO CLOSE!!

Help us save our children!
